NFL Survivor Pool Picks: Week 5 (2026)

Oct 6, 2026

The two safest survivor picks in Week 5

Two teams sit at the top of the board this week, and they're tied at the number that matters most. The New England Patriots (-8.5 at home vs. Las Vegas) and the Detroit Lions (-8.5 at Arizona) are the widest favorites in Week 5. If you're deciding who to pick, start there and work down.

Nothing in survivor is a lock — favorites lose every single week, and that's the whole game — but the spread is the market's best read on how likely a team is to win. When two teams are a full three points clear of everyone else, they earn the first look.

Why the Patriots and Lions lead

New England (-8.5 vs. Las Vegas) is at home and carries the joint-widest spread on the slate. For a survivor pick, home-field plus a near-nine-point number is about as supported as it gets this week.

Detroit (-8.5 at Arizona) matches that spread on the road, which is notable — the market is comfortable laying 8.5 even away from home. That's a strong signal, and it makes the Lions a clean primary option.

The real question isn't which is safer this week — it's which you'd rather burn. Both are the kind of recognizable favorite you may want in a later week. If you've already spent one of them, this is a reasonable spot to use the other.

A solid second tier

If you're saving both 8.5-point favorites, the Cincinnati Bengals (-5.5 at Miami) are the next step down and still a meaningful cushion ahead of the pack. The Baltimore Ravens (-4.5 at Atlanta) follow. Neither carries the margin of the top two, but both sit comfortably above the cluster of field-goal favorites that make up most of the slate. The team to be careful with

Be wary of the Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans. They're favored — but only by 1.5. A road favorite laid at barely over a point is essentially a coin flip in the market's eyes. The name may feel safe; the spread says it isn't. Same caution applies to the stack of 2.5-point favorites (Eagles, Jets, Steelers, Commanders, Chargers): these are close games, not survivor-grade separation. Don't let familiarity talk you into a pick the line doesn't back.

The one-pick reality

You only get to pick one team, and picking it here means not having it later. That's the entire tension of survivor: the Patriots and Lions are the strongest-supported options this week, but they're also the kind of names you may crave down the stretch. Weigh your week-by-week plan before committing.
