Josh Jacobs Faces Charges; Week 1 Status Cloudy for Packers

Aug 29, 2026

Josh Jacobs' Week 1 status is up in the air

Matt LaFleur says he "fully anticipates" Josh Jacobs being a member of the Packers, even as the running back faces charges of battery and criminal damage to property. The catch: LaFleur admitted he doesn't know whether Jacobs will actually be on the field in Week 1.

That's two separate questions. Roster status is one thing — availability for the opener is another, and the coach isn't guaranteeing the latter.

What it means for your survivor pick

If you were leaning on Green Bay early, this is a reason to slow down. Jacobs is a centerpiece of the offense, and a survivor pick built around a team without a confirmed lead back carries more downside than the matchup alone suggests. Until there's clarity on both the legal situation and his Week 1 availability, treat the Packers as a wait-and-see rather than a lock. There are cleaner options on any given slate, and the whole point of a safe survivor pick is removing avoidable uncertainty. If Jacobs is ruled out or the situation lingers, keep Green Bay in your back pocket and pick around it. New to the format? Brush up on how survivor pools work before you commit your first pick.
